Enjoy this Lunar New Year! This year is the year of the Tiger! To celebrate, I had to make a Nanjing street food favorite…pan fried beef dumplings. These were beyond delicious and easy to make!

Not only did I devour this entire plate, but I was craving more! When researching popular Nanjing street food, the pan fried beef dumpling came up. Now it was very hard to find a recipe, but I did my best to replicate them. While they may be slightly off from authentic, these were an easy and flavorful way to enjoy potstickers!

The first step is to complete the meat mixture. It is limited ingredients, which lets each one really shine through. First I added my ground beef, soy sauce, fennel seeds, white pepper, coriander, egg, and green onion. I mixed the meat mixture thoroughly. Once that was complete, we can move on to the making of the dumpling.

Making dumplings may seem daunting, but it took me only a couple tries before I was able to wrap a dumpling! I used remade dumpling wrappers. I find that they are easier, taste just the same, and save you a ton of work. If you like to use homemade ones, then that is even better! I just do not have time at the moment to make the wrappers from scratch. The trick is to not over stuff your wrapper. Too much filling will mean it will leak out in the cooking process, or it will not be fully cooked before the outside is. I find that about 1 tbsp of filling is the perfect amount. Rim the inside of the wrapper with water so it will create a seal. Once you have your filling in, gently fold the wrapper in half. Now you will have a half circle. Next, very carefully pinch the edges and fold over each other. It will begin to look like a fan or like it has a pleat.

Once the dumplings are ready, place in a skillet on medium heat with oil. You want to gently brown each side. This will take about 1-2 minutes. Lastly, add several tbsp of water and cover. This will finish the dumplings by steam. Now you have perfectly golden brown, crispy dumplings!
