There’s something magical about Korean fried chicken. It’s sweet, it’s spicy, and that irresistible crunch is everything. But making it at home doesn’t have to involve deep frying or hours of prep. Enter my version of Korean fried chicken—a quick and flavorful recipe that hits all the right notes using store-bought chicken breast chunks, a homemade sauce, and an air fryer for quick results!

Why This Recipe Works
This recipe simplifies the traditional process without sacrificing flavor. By air frying premade breaded chicken chunks, you save time and effort while still achieving that golden-brown, crispy exterior. The sauce, a perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and umami, takes just minutes to prepare and packs a flavorful punch.
Whether you’re hosting game night, craving comfort food, or simply looking for a fun dinner idea, this recipe is here to satisfy. Let’s dive into the details before getting to the recipe at the end!
The Star of the Show: The Sauce
The secret to great Korean fried chicken lies in its sauce. This sauce combines Korean staples like gochujang (a fermented chili paste) and sesame seeds with pantry-friendly ingredients like ketchup and brown sugar. The result is a balance of sweet, spicy, and tangy flavors with a touch of richness from butter. The red pepper flakes add customizable heat, so you can make it as mild or fiery as you like.
And let’s not forget the aromatics—minced garlic and ginger bring a depth of flavor, while green onions add freshness. A touch of soy sauce ties it all together with salty, savory goodness.

The Chicken: Convenience Meets Quality
For this recipe, I love using Kirkland lightly breaded chicken breast chunks, available at Costco. These chunks are made with tender chicken and come pre-breaded, making them the perfect base for this dish. If you don’t have Kirkland chicken on hand, any quality breaded chicken nuggets or tenders will do. Just make sure they’re cooked to a crisp for that authentic fried chicken texture.
Alternatively you can buy quality, ethically sourced chicken cutlets and bread them yourself! Grab three bowls: one for beaten eggs, one for all-purpose flour, and one for breadcrumbs. Dredge your chicken pieces in the flour until completely covered, then submerge in egg bowl, and lastly cover in breadcrumbs.

How to Serve
Once your chicken is coated in the glossy, sticky sauce, garnish with fresh green onion for a pop of color and extra flavor. Serve this dish as a snack, appetizer, or pair it with steamed rice for a complete meal. It’s also fantastic alongside some refreshing pickled radishes or a simple cucumber salad to balance the heat.

Pro Tips for Success
- Don’t Overcrowd the Air Fryer: Air fry your chicken in a single layer to ensure even crisping.
- Customize the Heat: Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes and gochujang to match your spice tolerance.
- Sauce Consistency: If your sauce feels too thick, add a splash of water to thin it out while cooking.
- Double the Sauce: This recipe makes enough sauce for one batch of chicken, but it’s so good, you might want extra for dipping or drizzling over rice.
