I am a huge fan of a classic surf and turf! But this time, I wanted to make it a bit different. I decided that this dish would go amazing with a soy butter. It has a subtle nod to Asian influences but remains a traditional classic. I find the soy butter adds a nice saltiness and umami flavor that is perfect with your steak and shrimp

The first thing you want to do is to let your steak come to room temperature. This ensures a more even cook. Season generously with salt and pepper. When seared in a hot skillet, it will develop a very nice crust. I like using cast iron for my steaks as it gets hotter and smokier. Once your steak gets golden brown on the first side, flip and reduce the heat to medium. Add your butter, garlic, and herbs and baste. You are cooking your steak about 16 minutes total.

I highly recommend using a meat thermometer so you can track the internal temp. For a nice medium rare-medium, cook to 125F. Remove your steak from the heat and wrap in foil. Do not touch for at least 10 minutes so the steak can rest.
In that same skillet, add your marinated shrimp. Cook for about 2 minutes or until the shrimp is opaque in color. Set aside. Now the sauce is pretty quick to make! On medium heat in the same pan, add your butter and soy sauce.

Slowly pour your heavy cream and stir well. This will help deglaze the pan of all those delicious bits from the steak and shrimp. This adds a lot of flavor. once your sauce begins to bubble and thicken, reduce the heat. Sprinkle with red pepper flakes. Pour your sauce over your steak and shrimp!
